Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Statement

  1. Blue Demon Theatre actively denounces any form of harm against any individual based on their identity including race specifically in the forms of anti-Blackness or anti-Asian; gender, specifically transphobia and misogyny; sexual orientation in the form of homophobia; age; class; nationality in the form of xenophobia; ability; immigration status; religion whether it be anti-Semitic or Islamophobic.
  2. Blue Demon Theatre will commit to creating a diverse and inclusive space where students feel valued and respected by re-empowering those who have had their power diminished previously and/or currently for the privilege of others.
  3. Blue Demon Theatre will ensure that every character’s racial identity is accurately reflected by the student acting in that role. Blue Demon Theatre will not appropriate other cultures/races/and ethnicities in its productions.
  4. Blue Demon Theatre respects everyone’s gender pronouns and welcomes and honors all gender identities. We encourage everyone to introduce themselves with their gender pronouns when they enter an audition, rehearsal, performance, and more. While normalizing the use of gender pronouns is an imperfect step toward gender justice, it is the first step in thinking more critically about gender and allows us to find more ethical ways of relating to one another.
  5. Blue Demon Theatre’s commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access will be ongoing with the intention of correcting and learning from missteps and mistakes when they have caused social or cultural harm whether it be internally or externally. This includes examining our own imperfections while opening channels for members to express their concerns. These channels will always be open through the role of the Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Director.

Incident Report

Blue Demon Theatre wants to make this a space safe for you. You can use this incident report to inform Blue Demon Theatre's Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion department about any problems you may have faced while working with us. These issues may include anything related to racism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, sexism, classism, and any other forms of discrimination that may occur. All reports filed will be reviewed internally, and anything and everything that is submitted will be held privately with your discretion.

The act of filing an incident report is to insure that the community that we have created and continue to create is a safe place for every member of Blue Demon Theatre. With every report, we will take initiative action and have the problem resolved, so it doesn't happen again. We will hold the offenders accountable whether that be internally or externally.
